Why did Luke from the Outdoor Boys Quit? (Goodbye Video)

For the past 10 years, Luke Nichols from the Outdoor Boys YouTube channel has posted entertaining videos and vlogs every week or every other week. As shown in the video above, Luke announced on May 17, 2025 (exactly 10 years after posting his first video) that he’d be taking a break from filming and posting new videos. He cited the following reasons for this decision:

1. Avoid constant attention and recognition (and occasional harassment) from his growing fan base.

2. To spend more time with his family, including helping his son Tom grow his own YouTube channel (Outdoor Tom).

3. Focusing on other things that are more important to Luke and to what he values.

 

He also called upon his fans to go out and do something beyond themselves to help others, just as we’ve been helped and entertained by his videos.

 

In this goodbye video, Luke did mention the recording of three videos that he would publish on YouTube later in the year. In November 2025 Luke Nichols climbed out of his hibernation and posted this short video announcing the cadence by which he would post these videos.

 

To his fans’ delight, this video leaves the door open to Luke returning to YouTube and posting more videos of his adventures, homesteading, and travels in the coming years. Time will tell if the Outdoor Boys have truly said farewell to YouTube or not.
